A Fragile Existence addresses the precarious state of our natural world. Armed with the belief that all living things are connected by the habitat that we share, the work aims to capture this precious wilderness, documenting its riches of colour, shape, spirit and mood. It pays homage to the fertile habitats that are being threatened daily which, in turn, threatens mankind’s own existence.

2019 The Other Art Fair - Landscape wall sculptures

This new body of work focuses on cut-out wall sculptures that reveal the remote and untouched tropical landscapes of the Northern Territory. My imagery is driven by an intense curiosity with nature, landscape and mythology. I often record ideas using a visual language of acrylic and pyrogravure on cut-out forms, a device I have developed to strongly emphasise my preoccupation with shadows and space. I want to challenge my audience to observe and question the balance between positive and negative, both visually and conceptually. To understand the beauty found in a state of equilibrium.

2018 Hidden In Plain Sight - Landscape Paintings

I have a desire to express what I'm looking at in unconventional ways, combining mediums that allow me to create a unique visual language. Acrylic washes represent soft foliage, skin and feathers. Gestural marks of graphite speak of the textures of different barks. Pyrogravure marks burn the shadows into the image. Deeply inspired by nature, I have begun a journey to question why we always seem to be versing nature. How will our future look if we don't embrace the natural world and learn from it? My most recent body of work, for my first solo exhibition, acknowledges mankind has much to learn from nature, what are we missing that is right in front of us, hidden in plain sight? I have used the mythological nymph motif to describe a world untouched by human impact. Considered the caretakers of the nature, these mythological creatures are curious about and empathetic towards the natural environment. The re-imagined nymphs create a narrative to explore the harmony present in nature, introducing a human-like scale to the landscape they pose the question, "What are we not seeing?"

2018 Hidden In Plain Sight - Small wall sculptures

The Gothic period in architecture, sculpture and art was characterised by strong buttresses, sweeping arches and mythical ornate motifs. These small wall sculptures compare this with the similarities in nature, depicting trees with their strong buttress roots, sweeping branches and mythological Nymphs protecting the 'cathedrals' of the natural world. Mirrored, to represent the two towers found in Gothic cathedrals, the irregular shapes echo a period that was revolting against the subtle, searching for something monumental. These pieces are cut-out forms, another device I have developed to strongly emphasize my preoccupation with positive and negative space. Ultimately, I am seeking to challenge my audience to observe and question the balance between positive and negative, both visually and conceptually.

2017-2019 Gypsy Journey - Landscape Paintings

Over the last three years I have undertaken many trips into our amazing Australian outback. From Arnhem Land and Uluru in the Northern Territory, the Ord River, Purnululu and Pentacost River in northern Western Australia, crossing the Simpson Desert in central Australia, out to the eastern coast and all the way through the Daintree up to the tip of Cape York. The images in this gallery represent the start of my documentation and response to these journeys. I have explored many aspects from the contours of the land, impressions of light, colour and scale, down to smaller sketches of details. I see this time as 'research' and am now keen to further develop a body of work showcasing the Australian landscape.

2016 Glamour Birds - Paintings

The Glamour Bird series was my first exploration into morphing humans with animals. Intrigued by the fact that birds are one of the only other bipedal animals on the planet apart from humans and primates. This seemed to make it easier for the mind to accept the morphology as ‘normal’. Half bird, half human deities are present as far back as the Egyptian times because birds are often considered to be a conduit to the heavens. Modelled on 1940’s pin up girls, there is also a play on society’s reference to attractive women as ‘birds’.
